POV: you wake up AGAIN between 1-3 in the morning. Why do I wake up between 1-3 in the morning?
Watch this week’s YouTube video
I hear this question all the time from my clients, and it’s something I’ve struggled with myself – Why do I wake up every night between 1-3 in the morning?
When we enter our late 30s to mid 40s, many things change with our bodies (am I right?), especially as far as our hormones and ability to handle stress.
Many times you wake up in the middle of the night because of ~low blood sugar~
See, your brain needs glucose to function. When you have low blood sugar, your brain signals your adrenal glands to produce cortisol >>aka the STRESS hormone
Cortisol increases glucose levels which is great, but it’s also why you have anxiety and energy almost to the point where you can get up and start your day at like three in the morning.
Not good.
To help a girl out, here are some of my favorite bedtime snacks to stabilize your blood sugar:
A glass of whole milk (cold/hot) with honey and a dash of sea salt
Full fat vanilla ice cream with a sprinkle of salt
A pear apple with full-fat cheddar cheese
A small bowl of minced meat and lentils with a splash of barbecue sauce
Peanut butter and banana smoothie with protein powder
Smoked salmon on a whole grain biscuit
I talk more about this on Youtube so check out the full video and save this post so you don’t forget these sleepy snack ideas!
