Coupe-like SUVs are all the rage and Buick, builder of rugged semi-luxury crossovers, is looking to get in on the action with the 2024 Envista. The Chinese-built Envista, which will take on the Audi Q5 Sportback and the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, will do so with its more wallet-friendly pricing. Stylistically, it looks a bit awkward, at least to our eye, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We have few details on the North American variant so far, but Buick has confirmed that the model will make it to our shores, sandwiched between the smaller Encore GX and the larger Envision SUVs. When we find out more about the US market Envista, we will update this story with details.
What’s new for 2024?
The Envista will be an all-new nameplate for Buick when it hits US dealers. We expect to see it on sale for the 2024 model year.
Prices and which one to buy
Buick has yet to reveal North American pricing for the Envista, and while it’s said to start at a lower price point in China, we expect it to be offered in more comprehensively equipped trims in the US with a higher starting price become
Engine, transmission and performance
The Chinese version of the Envista is powered by a 181 hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). That same powertrain—likely with your choice of front- or all-wheel drive—could come here unchanged or Buick could drop in the Envision’s more powerful 228-hp turbo 2.0-liter that also uses a nine-speed automatic. When we find out more about the Envista’s power source, we’ll update this story with those details.
Interior, comfort and cargo
Inside, the Envista appears to offer a cabin that’s roomy for four, although the chic coupe-like roofline will no doubt cut into rear-seat headroom. If Buick’s current offerings are anything to go by, we probably won’t see truly luxurious materials, but nonetheless, the Envista should offer plenty of convenience features and desirable tech gadgets.
Infotainment and connectivity
The Envista’s dashboard consists of two 10.3-inch screens, one for the SUV’s gauge cluster and the other serving as a touchscreen infotainment interface. From photos we can see that there is also a separate panel for climate controls below a mid-mounted dashboard vent. We expect Buick’s most up-to-date software to be used here and should include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, available in-dash navigation, and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot.
Warranty and Maintenance Cover
Buick’s standard warranty package offers more generous powertrain coverage than many of the Envista’s main rivals, but the ute’s one that included service visits pales in comparison to the plans of the BMW X4 and the Infiniti QX55both of which offer much longer terms for complimentary scheduled maintenance.
- Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty covers six years or 70,000 miles
- Complimentary scheduled maintenance is covered for the first visit
