CHARLOTTE – The Novant Health Foundation and donors celebrated the completion of phase one of the expanded neonatal intensive care unit with a ribbon cutting Thursday.
The larger NICU space, located in Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital, will continue to provide critical care for premature babies in a comfortable space for patients and their families.
Katie Spizzirri, chief philanthropy officer for Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center Foundation, expressed her gratitude for the community support to make this renovation possible.
“We are thrilled to officially open the doors of the expanded and improved NICU to our smallest patients and their families,” Spizzirri said. “None of this would be possible without continued community support that enables us to provide complex critical care for babies who need it most.”
The expansion was designed with patients, families and team members in mind.
There will be 12 new NICU spaces, which will allow team members to care for 25% more babies, a private lactation room for mothers to pump or nurse, family toilets and a new team lounge.
