Mitchell Sandler today announced that Evan Daniels, one of the nation’s leading regulators in financial services and insurance, has joined the firm as counsel. Daniels joins Mitchell Sandler after leading the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions, culminating nearly a decade in Arizona public service.

“I am excited to begin a new phase in my career with Mitchell Sandler,” said Daniels. “I have been fortunate to work with technology innovators and industry leaders in financial services and insurance as a regulator, and I look forward to helping clients navigate what can be complex and overlapping regulatory requirements at all levels of government. “

As director of the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions, Daniels led Arizona’s regulatory agency that licenses and oversees banks, credit unions, mortgage lenders and all lines of insurance. Prior to his appointment, Daniels served at the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, where he led teams that investigated, litigated and advised on issues related to consumer protection, fair treatment, data privacy, government relations and public funds. In particular, he was responsible for establishing and managing the Arizona Fintech Sandbox, a first-in-the-nation program designed to provide regulatory flexibility for fintech in Arizona.

Since the firm’s launch in 2019, Mitchell Sandler has undertaken to build the nation’s leading boutique financial services and fintech law firm with a practice focused on advising its clients on issues related to the latest financial products and payment technologies used today. This practice focuses, among other things, on the complex banking and financial services regulations that affect fintech products and services.

“As we set out to further expand our financial services and fintech practice areas, we couldn’t imagine anyone better suited than Evan to support and diversify our business platform,” said Andrea Mitchell, founder and managing partner of Mitchell Sandler, said. “We are excited to add one of the nation’s most prominent financial services and insurance attorneys, with special expertise in technology and consumer protection.” Mitchell added, “Our clients increasingly depend on us to provide a broad perspective on how the law applies to their business today and how it may apply to them five or 10 years from now. Evan has the depth of knowledge to help our clients operate in today’s environment and also see what is around the corner.”
