Hartford Insurance Unit Must Defend Energy Company in IP Row

A Hartford Financial Group insurance unit must pay the legal defense costs of an energy services company that allegedly published a competitor’s material on its website, a federal judge has ruled.

Sentinel Insurance Co. failed to show that the general liability policy it issued to its client, Houston-based Choice Energy Services Retail LP, precluded coverage for intellectual property infringement and breach of contract claims, Judge Lee H. Rosenthal of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas on Tuesday.
